One Night Only

A few weeks I started seeing billboards ALL over SacTown as if it was a MAJOR event... one night only, March 1st, at some casino in Reno or Tahoe or Indian Casino or wherever it is... Howie Mandel. Is it just me or does that sound like a painful evening? Yes, I have watched deal or no deal and I know he used to be a minor TV star 20 years ago, but a whole show of just Howie Mandel? I think he does comedy but he really doesn't strike me as that funny.

I can see 10 or 15 minutes as I am sure that would be funny. He probably does a bit about some of the outrageous contestants on Deal or No Deal, all the stupid stuff they do, and how they try to hug and kiss him because he is such a major celebrity. I mean everybody wants to touch him, right!? I remember being out to dinner in LA (out in the valley), 10-15 years ago, and he was sitting a couple tables over. I certainly wasn't tempted to go get his f'ing autograph or something. I only remember because someone else at the table noticed him, I had no clue who he was, and then I started seeing his name come up. Sort of stuck in my mind.

So, the crazy people on the TV show trying to touch him will lead him into a bit about his phobia of people touching him. He will make a couple of funny comments about awkward situations his phobia has put him in over the years... "one time I was out to dinner and had to wash my hands 35 times... ha, ha, ha...."

What else does he have? Maybe a crack about how much money he makes and thus it's sometimes hard to connect with the regular people on his tv show making true life altering decisions about money that is chump change to him!?

Ok, that's 15 minutes and the show still has another 45!? Or maybe it will be like the time I saw Madness at the Palace in Hollywood. It was about 1984. A friend and I jumped into my v-dub Rabbit and rolled up to Hollywood on a school night (10th grade I guess). That's really nice of momz to give me that leeway because my kid isn't going to a concert on a school night until they are about 35 years old! Madness pretty much played Our House, two or three other songs, and left the stage. 45 minutes at most with no encore. What else does Howie Mandel possibly have? Could he even fill an hour? Seriously I would rather have root canal.

I should say I am not big on going to shows so would have to be big for me to enjoy it. If I was going to see a comedian it would have to be someone FUNNY like Eddie Murphy, Jerry Seinfeld, George Carlin and possibly the King's of Comedy. Beyond that I wouldn't spend a dime on a ticket. As for the Howie Mandel show I think I would rather throw the money into the tip jar at Starbucks and stay home on March 1st.

peace out
