I came in late today as we had our daily trip to the emergency room last night... as the little dude had a bloody ear. Turns out Kitty Kat scrapped it with a Q-tip, nothing to worry about, go home, but just another night in the SacTownGuy household. Anyway, drove in late and listened to the Rise Guys on 1140. Let me start by saying I dislike them but ESPN and Fox Sports basically have all commercials from 5 minutes til the hour until 5 after the hour. So I flipped to 1140. They were talking about the "jumping the shark" moment for the SacTown King's. I did not know what this reference was but apparently it has to do with a thing peaking; as in Happy Day's peaked when Fonzie jumped the shark. Maybe youngsters, in their 30's, know about this reference but not us in our 40's!
When did the King's jump the shark? Who cares. I just went to the website, www.jumptheshark.com and it has every TV show in history and when people think the show jumped the shark.
Ok, now some trivia that I was reminded of this morning. The on-air radio idiots kept talking about Fonzie jumping the shark tank on his motorcycle. I could picture in my mind an episode where Fonzie, in Arnold's parking lot, jumping something on his motorcycle but I didn't remember a shark tank. Someone smarter than me called the show and reminded them it was Fonzie jumping a shark on water skis! In my opinion, Happy Day's had jumped the shark before that episode. Really, by that time Laverene and Shirley was more popular; come on, you tell me you didn't think that eventually Lenny and/or Squiggy would hook up with Laverene and/or Shirley!?
That's not what I wanted to talk about. I wanted to check a couple of other modern Ameircan CLASSICS on the jump the shark website to see when America thinks these shows jumped.
I first checked CHiP's and America has voted as follows on www.jumptheshark.com
Exit...Stage Left (Jon Baker) 241 votes
Day One 59 votes
Never Jumped 43 votes
The punk rockers 19 votes
The first huge car crash 14 votes
No doubt it's when Jon left. Sure Ponch was the real star but Jon's steady influence was important. Even Bruce Jenner, with his decathalon gold in his back pocket, couldn't fill in for Jon! That's easy.
What show did I check next? Come on, that's easy... B.A., Hanibal, Murdoch... The A-Team. Jumptheshark.com says:
They stopped running from the government and stared working for them 433 votes
Never Jumped 164 votes
Frankie Santana joins the cast 129 votes
No one seemed to die 81 votes
Day One 50 votes
I don't remember them working for the government. Did that really happen? Scary. I have to say the A-Team CLEARLY never jumped the shark. You put that show on today and people will watch it! They bring back Knightrider instead of the A-Team? Who the hell is in charge in Hollywood? Must be nobody I know because that's insanity.
Ok, one last one, it was standard dinner table TV, after pops died. To this day my momz, even with not a perfect memory, knows she HATES 3's Company. Jumptheshark says:
Exit...Stage Left (Chrissy Snow) 1807 votes
Never Jumped 301 votes
Mr. Furley takes over for the Ropers 127 votes
Jack gets a bistro 126 votes
Day One 99 votes
No wonder America is so f'd up. People really shouldn't be allowed to vote for President if they screw this up so badly. Seriously, there are 127 people in this country who should not be allowed to vote for anything. Yes, Mr. Roper was awesome with his binoculers in the opening peeping out the window, his crude comments and... just everything about him. He was so great he had his own show and, if memory serves, the Ropers was on TV for a few years, wasn't it? However, Mr. Furley did a fine job running the apartment building in my opinion. He was a different character but the show did NOT jump the shark at that point. I also do not agree with Chrissy leaving the show as the problem because the other bimbo they brought in did fine. To me Jack taking over the bistro and then having at least one spin off show about that was the moment the show went down hill fast.
I have work to do so can't check any more out but go check out www.jumptheshark.com and check up on a few shows. They have EVERY show ever made it appears. I didn't check if they have the Magic Show listed. How long did that last? A week, was it? I love Magic but he jumped the shark the moment he started his first monologue!
As for the King's, I don't think "game 7" and the missed free throws was the moment. I think it was Webbers injury in the playoffs a year or two later against the Mav's, if memory serves me, that was the end.
peace out
