Day 1 is in the books and I can't sleep. Long day as we got up early, had some breakfast on the way to the airport, sat at the airport forever, had the long flight, yada, yada, yada.... The guy here is a security guard at SacTown. Not sure my camera phone does him justice. He looks like he might have put away a beer or two in his life; or a case a night for that matter. Now let me first say I really don't care if people are skinny, fat, tall, short, whatever but how does this guy get a job doing security in a post 9-11 world? Maybe he has a keen bomb sniffing ability but can he chase down a bad guy? Kitty Kat was mad at me for taking his picture but in our hyper sensitive airport security world how does he pass the physical test? I have to imagine there is a physical test to be an airport security guard now days? No?
Ok, the flight was fine. Aloha Air served this breaded chicken sandwich, straight out of the microwave, but still in the steam microwave bag, as the "meal" which reminded me why I like first class a lot better. I took one bite of that thing and all I could recall was buying lunch tickets from my friends for a quarter so I could get lunch... back in 8th grade. I bet that LAUSD and Aloha have the same supplier. Kids did fine on the plane but got bored of course and the dude had a bad bloddy nose as we started the descent. Luckily the mom a row in front of us was quick to whip a maxi-pad out of her purse which absorbed the blood right up. The dude had no idea what I was holding on his face and it dried up.
We went to Wal-Mart outside the airport and let me say if you had any doubt on buying Wal-Mart stock or not, BUY IT! We wanted some binoculers to watch the whales and some food for our hotel room. I was happy to get out of that place, no matter how much we spent, just because it was so crowded. I think I must have crowded place-phobia (whatever that is called) because it was awful. Have never been in such a busy Wal-Mart in my life. It was a mix of locals buying the necessities and tourists stocking up on beer, sun-tan lotion, and cheap s'neers. Just crazy busy.
Scored on the hotel! I was a little scared about renting these timeshares from private parties on-line but looks like it worked out (we were able to check in and haven't been kicked out yet). The two bedroom is ground floor, ocean FRONT, and is really sweet. For $2,350 for the week we got a f'ing STEAL. It's the same price per night as my momz paid at the Hyatt next door for a small room overlooking the parking lot as she got here a couple days early. Same price as the Hyatt, just as nice room but it's two bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and the living room/kitchen. Sliding doors open to the grass. Beyond the grass is the walk way and then the beach. I am listening to the water now as I sit here unable to sleep.
Where did we have dinner to kick off my 40th birthday week? Well, we walked up the Village to go one of the beachfront places. I like those spots. Very busy and was already getting late. So, we watched a hula show for a few minutes and them came back here for cereal and PB&J sandwiches. Yes, really. We aren't too fancy. I had Kix with a few Apple Jacks mixed in. Actually my momz threw in a glass of wine with her PB&J. I bet we can do better on food tomorrow.
Ok, well I better not stay up all night screwing around. I have got to get some sleep.
aloha.
