Cruising to work the other day on a road I do not normally take I passed a place called the Omelet Professor. Looked real nice as I drove by so mentioned it to Kitty Kat. My family is stuck on the Original Pimp House so hard to get them to veer away from OPH but today I was successful. This worked well as we went to the OPH yesterday so made for a great comparison. The Professor is in Citrus Heights which, for those that don't know, is a working class city within the greater SacTown area and it's very close to the SacTownGuy's crib up in Roseville.
The Professor is in a low end strip center at the corner of Antelope and Sunrise. Other tenants include a Kragan Auto Parts, a low end Vietnamese nail salon and that's about it. The Professor, unlike it's fellow tenants, is quite nice inside. From moment one you notice the nice decor, flat screen tv's on the booths, beautiful counter top seating, and little things like upgraded ceiling tiles (I hate those regular square white ceiling tiles that look so average). Anyway, the look is great, the staff was plentiful and friendly. What about the food?
Well, it's not as good as the OPH. Not really close in food quality. However, it was nice that the little dude and little girl were happily quiet while we ate... as they were busy watching Scooby Doo on our little TV. I hate to plug my kids into the TV but was nice that they weren't going stir crazy in the place like they do at most restaurants. Plus, the TV made up for the lack of chocolate pancakes which my kids rely on at breakfast at OPH; ya, I know it's just chocolate cake. Anyway, back to the food at the Omelet Professor....
Kitty Kat got a pancake combo, the little dude got french toast, the little girl got funny face pancakes and I got a western omelet. I would call the food almost 3 stars. It was fine. Better than Ihop? Maybe. The bacon looked better than that stuff they serve at Ihop but not even close to the high quality pig products that OPH dishs up. The omelet was nice as the eggs produced a fluffy omelet. However, the ham was of average quality and the salsa on top was very canned. The cakes and french toast were a little over cooked but of decent quality. The whip cream on the funny face was out of can and not fresh like at OPH. Oh ya, plus even Ihop usually heats the fake maple syrup but not the professor. Those little details matter!
I would say the clean environment and friendly staff made up for the average food. It will be a breakfast alternative for us but certainly will not be replacing the Original Pimp House at this time. For now I say 3 stars and to get to 4 the professor would have to go back to school!
peace out.
