Kinky Cows

Went to LA for the weekend. Apologies to my LA peeps but as usual we only saw a few family members and that's it. Just too hard with the kids, etc... so forgive me.

So went down to see my grandma to celebrate her 92nd birthday. Still going strong of course. In fact, had her driver's license renewed for 5 more years. She said she will not renew it again. We will see what happens in 5 years because she is in amazing health so she may be good for one more renewal! That was all Saturday night at her birthday dinner that didn't start until 7:00 and we all didn't leave there until about 9:30... that only because grams had a little cold. She is amazing! They are heading to Palm Springs tomorrow to do some outlet shopping. We all should be so lucky at 92!

Went out to Pasadena on Friday to the children's museum, Kid's Place. That's a nice spot to take the kids. With 75-80 degree sun beaming down it was an ideal place to be as they have a huge outdoor area. Stopped for lunch at a place in Pasadena called Dona Rosa. WOW, that place is awesome. It's a Mexican taqueria and bakery. Turns out it's owned by the same people as El Cholo which is of course old skool LA Mexican food down on Western near my old skool. Great salsa bar, fresh brewed iced tea, breakfast items all day, and fresh baked goods. Modest prices as you wait in line to order. I wish it was a franchise as we need one of those in SacTown! Awesome place! Anyway, check out Kid's Place and Dona Rosa next time you are down in LA.

Went to the UCLA v. Cal game on Saturday. Was my little dude's first game at Pauley Pavilion. How fun to take him there. Unfortunately I left with 30 seconds left and missed the miracle finish where UCLA just STOLE the game from Cal. In fact, they stole both games this weekend. They better wake up if they to do anything in the NCAA tourney! Listening to the last few seconds in the car was funny. Turns out Don MacLean is now the color guy for UCLA radio. He is NOT good. He could fill the stat sheet when a player in Westwood and even had a modest NBA career but has not yet found his voice on the radio. Cal was going to throw the ball in with some tenths of a second left. The refs were figuring it out by looking at the replay. This took a while.... Donnie Mac said, "there is really nothing Cal can do if the refs only leave two tenths on the clock...." He went on to say, "the rules say if there is less than 3 tenths you can't even tip it in... there is just nothing you can do." Obviousily he was confused with the NBA rule that you can't CATCH the ball if only 2 or 3 tenths are on the clock. Anyway, Donnie was confused. UCLA got the win and there was NO mention on the post game show that the Josh Shipp HORSE style shot was illegal in college.

Oh ya, you trying to figure out Kinky Cows have to do with a trip to LA? Cruising down I-5 everybody knows that just north of the Harris Ranch you pass the Harris Ranch cattle; thousands of cows waiting to be turned into steak. They stink! My little girl doesn't do her S's very well so the whole way there (and back) she was asking when we would pass the "kinky cows."

peace out.
